See What Your Bloodwork Can't.

Blood tests can’t see masses, cysts, nodules, stones, fatty liver, or early plaque — ultrasound can.

The System Waits. We Don't.

You shouldn’t have to wait for symptoms or “abnormal labs” before someone takes your health seriously. Our preventive screenings find early structural changes long before the medical system would normally detect them.

Ultrasound Screening vs. Full-Body MRI: What Patients Should Know

Many patients assume MRI is the best place to start—but in real medical workflows, ultrasound is often the clearer, faster, and more practical first step for early detection.

Feature Ultrasound Screening
(Atlanta Ultrasound)
Full-Body MRI Scans
Ability to See Real-Time Blood Flow Yes – Doppler shows live blood flow & soft plaque No – Cannot evaluate real-time flow
Best For Detecting Masses, cysts, nodules, fatty liver, gallstones, thyroid/ovarian changes, early plaque Large abnormalities; requires ultrasound for most follow-up characterization
Comfort Level Open, quiet, no tunnel or contrast needed Enclosed tube, loud machine, may require contrast
Follow-Up Workflow No additional testing usually needed for characterization Most findings require follow-up with ultrasound
Scan Time 20–45 Minutes 60–90 Minutes
Cost $349–$675
(flat-rate, no surprise bills)
$1,000–$2,500+
(cash pay)
Best For Early detection of common issues: breast, thyroid, liver, gallbladder, kidneys, ovaries, plaque Advanced imaging when ultrasound or CT suggests a major concern
Radiation None None
Appointment Access Same-week appointments Waitlist, screenings often scheduled weeks out
Results Turnaround 1–2 Business Days Varies (often 1–2 weeks)

“I didn’t have to spend $2,000 just to get answers.”

“I booked the LiverScan and I’m so glad I did. My labs kept coming back ‘normal,’ but something felt off. Atlanta Ultrasound found fatty liver early, long before my bloodwork would have changed—and I didn’t have to spend $2,000 on an MRI just to get clarity. Fast, comfortable, affordable. I wish I had done this months ago.”

Why Choose an Echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram (also known as a heart ultrasound or heart sonogram), is used to assess the function and structures of the heart. This non-invasive medical test uses sound waves to diagnose various heart conditions.

In this procedure, a sonographer places a transducer (a piece of ultrasound equipment that looks like a microphone) on a patient's chest and is able to get a real-time visualization of a heart's structure and pumping ability.

Here at the Atlanta Ultrasound Clinic, we have the most up-to-date ultrasound equipment to provide unparalleled accuracy and provide the highest quality service and interpretation for our patients.

When you get an echocardiogram imaging scan with us, a certified and licensed sonographer will record images and video of your heart function, which is then analyzed by a board-certified cardiologist after the scan finishes.

During this analysis, our board-certified cardiologist will write a detailed report explaining the status of the chambers, valves, and walls of your heart – in addition to how well the blood is flowing throughout your heart.

If there are any abnormalities or conditions identified during the scan, these will be included in the report also.

What can be seen on an Echocardiogram?

  • Heart Murmur

  • Abnormal EKG

  • Aortic aneurysm

  • Arrhythmias

  • Atherosclerosis

  • Atrial or Septal Wall Defects

  • Cardiac Effusion

  • Cardiac Masses

  • Cardiac Tumors

  • Cardiomyopathy

  • Congenital Heart Disease

  • Effects from High blood pressure

  • Endocarditis

  • Heart Failure

  • Heart Valve Disease

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

  • Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)

  • Pericardial Effusion or Tamponade

  • Pericarditis

  • Pulmonary Hypertension

  • Valve Stenosis or Regurgitation

  • Chest Pain

Why Choose an Ultrasound over MRI Screening?

What Happens If MRI Finds Something?

They Usually Send You for Ultrasound Next.

MRI is powerful — but when it picks up a “possible mass” or “area of concern,” the next step is almost always ultrasound. That’s because ultrasound is the first-line tool for evaluating:

Breast lumps

Thyroid nodules

Ovarian cysts

Kidney masses

Liver lesions

Gallbladder disease

Carotid plaque

Heart Abnormalities

Blood flow to masses

MRI sees “something might be there.”
Ultrasound determines what it actually is. (Sometimes a biopsy would be needed to follow up on certain findings.)

For most people, starting with ultrasound simply makes more sense:
faster, clearer next steps, lower cost, and the exact test used to characterize MRI findings anyway.

Echocardiogram FAQ
How much does an Echocardiogram cost?
An Echocardiogram at Atlanta Ultrasound is $400. We often offer seasonal specials, including our current $350 Summer Self-Pay rate.
Do I need a doctor's order or referral?
No. Georgia does not require a referral for ultrasounds. Since we are self-pay only and do not bill insurance, you can self-refer and schedule anytime.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance, which allows us to keep our prices lower and schedule your appointment quickly without the need for insurance approval or delays.
How long does the exam take?
The echo itself takes about 25–30 minutes. We recommend setting aside 45 minutes to allow for a brief conversation and a relaxed experience.
How will I get my results?
Your scan is reviewed by a Board-Certified Cardiologist. A written report and images are sent to you electronically within 1–3 business days. We can also send them to your doctor if needed.
Will my doctor accept my results?
Yes. All results are reviewed by a Board-Certified Cardiologist and are accepted by physicians throughout Georgia.
What happens during an Echocardiogram?
You’ll lie on your left side while the sonographer glides a probe over your upper chest. It’s painless, non-invasive, and takes about 30 minutes.
What happens if my results are abnormal?
Any abnormalities or irregularities will be detailed by our Board-Certified Cardiologist in your report. If needed, we can assist in coordinating follow-up care.
Screening Packages FAQ
Do I need a doctor's order or referral?
No. Georgia does not require a referral for ultrasound screenings. Because we are self-pay and do not bill insurance, you can schedule any of our screening packages on your own whenever you’re ready.
Is there any radiation with these screenings?
No. All of our screening packages are performed with ultrasound, which uses sound waves—not radiation. It’s safe, non-invasive, and comfortable.
Who reads my results?
Every exam is interpreted by a Board-Certified Radiologist. They review your images, create a formal report, and document any findings or recommendations.
How will I receive my results?
Your report is emailed to you within 1–2 business days. Images are available upon request, and if you bring your doctor’s fax number to your appointment, we are happy to fax the report directly to their office as well.
Will my doctor accept these results?
Yes. All screening reports are created and signed by a Board-Certified Radiologist and are accepted by providers throughout Georgia. You can share the report (and images if requested) with any doctor, specialist, or clinic.
Do I need to fast or prepare before my screening?
Fasting is required for any screening that includes an abdominal ultrasound (for example: liver, gallbladder, or full abdominal packages). Digestion and recent meals can change the way the gallbladder and liver stiffness appear, so arriving fasted helps us get the most accurate images. Specific instructions will be sent to you with your appointment confirmation.
How much do the screening packages cost?
Our screening packages have clear upfront pricing, with no surprise billing. You’ll see the exact price when you book. We also offer monthly payment options for those who prefer to spread out the cost over time.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not bill insurance. This allows us to keep pricing transparent and affordable, avoid surprise bills, and schedule you quickly without waiting for insurance approvals or referrals.
What happens if my screening finds something abnormal?
Any abnormal findings will be described in detail in your radiology report. We encourage you to share the report with your primary care provider or specialist so they can decide on next steps. If you need help understanding who to follow up with, our team is happy to point you in the right direction.
